The Spirit of Stone: Stonescaping Ideas for Your Garden

Award-winning landscape designer and author Jan Johnsen showcases how you can use stone, this most ancient of materials, to add dimension to your garden.  Stone is often an overlooked player in the landscape, but now that is starting to change.

She illustrates creative techniques for using natural stone in dry streams, stepping stone walks, rock gardens, and much more. By the end, you will never look at rocks and rock outcrops the same again. The talk accompanies the new book, The Spirit of Stone, published by St. Lynn’s Press (2017).

Jan Johnsen, landscape designer and author, received the Instructor of the Year award from the New York Botanical Garden. She taught landscape design at Columbia University for 7 years and since then has been a featured speaker at botanical gardens and horticultural societies across the country. She loves sharing her 45 years of experience in the landscape and horticultural professions!  Her previous book, Heaven is a Garden (St Lynn’s Press, 2014) is now in its third printing.
