America’s go-to guy for foraging, naturalist/author “Wildman” Steve Brill, will lead a 2.5 hour foraging tour sharing his skill and passion for wild edibles. Teatown is a rich natural area full of edible and medicinal wild plants and mushrooms. The trails that encircle the lake guarantee an abundance of many common late summer herbs, greens, berries, and fungi. Please dress for the weather, with closed toed shoes. For everyone ages 12+.
Join Fiona Mitchell from Leave Leaves Alone to learn the technique of leaf mulching, which puts nutrients back into the soil right where they are needed, saving time and money in the fall and improving the soil at the same time. For everyone.
Teatown is seeking volunteers to assist in teaching school groups: Pre-K through 6th grade. If you are a nature enthusiast and enjoy working with children, come to this meeting to get an overview of the guide program. We will discuss program themes, time requirements, and responsibilities.
Migration season is underway and raptors are moving along the Hudson River Flyway. Take a mile hike up Hook Mountain to a monitored watch site and view hawks, kestrels, vultures and maybe even an eagle or two as they move by overhead. For everyone.
