America’s go-to guy for foraging, naturalist/author “Wildman” Steve Brill, will lead a 2.5 hour foraging tour sharing his skill and passion for wild edibles. Teatown is a rich natural area full of edible and medicinal wild plants and mushrooms. The trails that encircle the lake guarantee an abundance of many common late summer herbs, greens, berries, and fungi. Please dress for the weather, with closed toed shoes. For everyone ages 12+.
There is a lot happening in Teatown Lake as fall approaches. Dragonflies dart and zoom, turtles come up to bask, and fish rise to the bait. The animals that you don’t see are just as interesting, so grab a net and get scooping! For everyone.
Migration season is underway and raptors are moving along the Hudson River Flyway. Take a mile hike up Hook Mountain to a monitored watch site and view hawks, kestrels, vultures and maybe even an eagle or two as they move by overhead. For everyone.

Spiders, snakes, bats, and bugs! So many different animals get a bad rap due to age-old superstitions and stories. Teatown’s myth buster, Elissa Schilmeister, will share her knowledge of the importance of all these animals for a healthy world. Celebrate the beaver moon with an evening hike through the forest to Vernay Lake to look and listen for nocturnal creatures under the light of the moon. For everyone.
It’s time to hike off those extra pounds gained from the Thanksgiving feast. The Overlook Trail, one of Teatown’s more remote trails, will give us a good workout and some views too! Moderate hike with some steep sections. Wear hiking boots, bring water and a snack. For adults.
Some very interesting tracks have been found on the grounds around the Visitor Center. What tales do these tracks tell? Using clues and a map we’ll search for the animal that left the clues for us to follow, and have fun solving a mystery. For families with children 4-6 years old.
