Make Your Own Bee Hotel

Brendon Scholl is a Teens and Teatown member and Ossining HS student whose Capstone project was to research native pollinators. Brendon found out native bee populations are in decline and that building bee hotels is one way to help these pollinators. As a conclusion to the project, Brendon will lead this program on making Bee Hotels out of re-purposed wood that participants will be able to bring home with them. All materials will be provided. iMapInvasives

How can a phone app help fight the spread of invasive species? iMapInvasives is a collaborative database designed to collect and share information about invasive species. The information that is generated is used to map where these invasive species are and how scientists can effectively contend with them. Citizen Scientists (that’s you!) are an essential part of this puzzle – making a difference with just a couple of clicks! Please join Teatown Educators as we walk you through the iMapInvasives program and introduce you to a few non-native invasive species. For everyone.

Community Planting Day

Lend a helping hand by planting native shrubs along Teatown’s Twin Lakes Trail. This project will complete a habitat restoration project started by Regeneron volunteers last fall. No experience required, and all planting equipment is provided. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring water and snacks as needed. All shrubs generously donated by patrons of PlantFest. The Wildman Cometh Again!

Hunt for wild edibles with the master – Wildman Steve Brill! Spring brings a myriad of wonders to Teatown’s woods and meadows. Leafy greens such as poor man’s pepper, wood sorrel, sheep sorrel, purslane, lamb’s-quarters, and Asiatic dayflower are more than likely to be seen. Garlic mustard leaves, buds, and flowers are a certainty. Wild mushrooms, if present, may provide a special treat. Ages 12+.

Aquatic Invasives Strike Force: Survey Volunteer Training

Join Lindsay Yoder, Teatown’s Aquatic Programs Coordinator and AIS Program Coordinator for the Lower Hudson PRISM, to learn how you can become an AISF Survey Volunteer! Learn identification skills, full survey protocol, and about all of the ways you can help us map aquatic invasive species throughout the Lower Hudson region. Full training at Teatown Lake Reservation, followed by a group survey field trip to Annsville Creek for those with their own kayaks or canoes. Ages 18+ required for on-water activity, 15+ for general training.
