Managing Overabundant Deer in the Lower Hudson Valley

Overabundant deer populations are one of the greatest threats to forest regeneration and biodiversity in the Lower Hudson Valley, but multiple approaches are available to address this conservation concern.

Please join us in learning from regional experts and land managers about overabundant deer and the methods used to manage them.  Dr. Allen Rutberg, Director at the Center for Animals and Public Policy and Research Assistant Professor for the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, will discuss the Hastings-on-Hudson deer immunocontraception program.  Additionally, Dr. Chris Nagy, Director of Research and Land Management at Mianus River Gorge, will give an overview of deer overabundance in the region.  Hillary Siener, Teatown’s Manager of Science and Stewardship Programs, will discuss the deer management program currently in effect at Teatown.
