Beginner’s Ear: Nature and Music at Teatown
June 26, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Johnny Gandelsman, Violin
Performing Bach, works by Tomeka Reid and Christina Courtin
Tune Your Ear to Nature and Live Music with Beginner’s Ear, an al fresco concert that tunes your ear to silence, nature, and music, leaving you feeling re-centered and inspired.
The 75-minute event begins with a short, guided meditation before the performance, and concludes with a question-and-answer session for participants with the musician.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, George Meyer will be unable to perform.
Johnny Gandelsman will step in, and perform his arrangement of the Bach cello suites for violin, and two contemporary works by Tomeka Reid and Christina Courtin.
The son of a musical family from Moscow, by way of Israel, violinist, composer, and producer Johnny Gandelsman combines his classical training with a restless desire to reach beyond the concert hall in exploring contemporary music. As a concert soloist and a founding member of the quartet Brooklyn Rider, Gandelsman has premiered dozens of new works and has released albums by The Knights, the Silkroad Ensemble, Brooklyn Rider, and others on his label, In a Circle Records.
His cello suite project has been praised by the New York Times.
