2008 Teatown Environmental Awards
Sunday, September 28, 2008
4:30 – 7:00pm
Teatown’s second Environmental Awards
reception will be held on Sunday afternoon,
September 28th at the home of Ed and Zita Rosenthal.
The Teatown Environmental Awards given in memory of Stephen P. Swope is presented to individuals, businesses, governmental agencies and municipalities who demonstrate a proactive role in nature conservation, ecological education and/or environmental leadership in our region, the Hudson Hills and Highlands. We are honored to have Former Governor George Pataki present the award this year.
Teatown is honored to bestow this year’s award to Geoffrey S. Thompson, long-time board member, friend and neighbor to Teatown, in recognition of his outstanding regional environmental leadership.
Geoff’s association with Teatown spans four decades beginning in his early twenties, Geoff rented a property from Teatown and worked part-time maintaining our preserve. Ever since Geoff has been in a leadership role at Teatown serving on the Board of Trustees several times, and holding a variety of positions, including that of Chairman.
Geoff’s outstanding efforts in nature conservation make him a most worthy recipient of this year’s Teatown Environmental Award. He has been extremely involved in the preservation of open space in the region. Much of Teatown’s growth from 190 to 834 acres can be attributed to Geoff. His involvement also spans beyond the borders of Teatown; for example, he was instrumental in the County’s purchase and formation of John Hand Park.
Please join us in this special tribute to an outstanding environmental leader who has played a critical role ensuring that our region will remain healthy and sustainable for generations to come.
